Karimunjawa, an exotic island off the coast of Semarang. When I was in Karimunjawa mid this year, I choose to spend the night at Wisma Apung. What makes Wisma Apung different from other hotels in Karimunjawa is it’s a floating hotel.

Location
Located in the middle of the sea and it is surrounded by crystal clear waters. It is built in the calm waters in between the Menjangan Besar and Menjangan Kecil Island so it is safe from strong currents. In order to get in and out of there, a 5 minute boat ride is needed from the main island.

Room
The rooms here are very basic and small. There are only 4 A/C rooms available, the others are non-A/C rooms. Inside the rooms, you will only get a mattress, a plug point, a small table, a mirror and that’s it. Bathrooms are attached but it is very-very basic, just like a village house but cleanliness is still acceptable. The main thing that I do not agree about this place is the waste from the toilets going straight down to the sea.

Facilities
The main attraction of the place is it has a shark pool. There’s a few reef shark, a turtle, starfish and a few more fishes in the pool. Visitors are allowed to swim inside the shark pool. A small convenience store is available for guests to buy some chips or canned drinks. A boat service is available to take you to the main island during your stay and it only cost a small fee. The food served for dinner and breakfast was also delicious.

Staffs
The staff there doesn’t talk much during our stay there. One of them did helped us to get to the main island during the night to buy some souvenirs. They don’t speak perfect english but it’s enough to steer u during your visit there.
Overall
It’s a unique experience having to stay at a place like this. Rooms are very limited so make sure you book early. Go if you want a unique experience, stay away if you are looking for fancy and nice place to stay.
